History: Ever since the attack on the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001, a lot of attention has been brought upon the religion of Islam. Most of the attention is negative, however, Islam has become the fastest growing religion in the world. In 1900, around 13% of the world consisted of Muslims, but now the numbers have risen to 22.5%. Most of the misconceptions that people have about Islam either revolve around the topic of terrorism or the Sharia Laws. These laws placed the idea that Muslim women are oppressed in Islam into the minds of the public. However, this isn't the case at all. Muslim women have a choice just like every other human. Yes it is true and very unfortunate that many are oppressed in other nations, but Islam is not to blame for that. The culture that they are raised in is to blame.
What My Project is About: I was originally going to do a documentary video interviewing several Muslim Women about what they think about Islam and the role of women within the religion and what they believe is the role of art as well, but my audience for that was very unclear. I wanted to target young adults, young women who wore a hijab. So instead, I now have focused my project on just that audience. Many young adults now are tech savvy, and use a Tumblr. The Tumblr I created instead focuses on young Muslim women who both wear a hijab and those who don't. I am a Muslim women who doesn't wear a hijab simply because I don't to. The purpose of this blog is so that I can show others that hijab fashion and Islamic calligraphy and art are beautiful. Not only that, but I also want to show that Muslim women are happy.
