Art and Women - Semester Project

For my semester project I am focusing on a female Mexican artists who is not relatively know in the Art World, Veronica Ruiz de Velasco. The inspiration to represent this women artist as my topic for my semester project was seeing the art of this extraordinary woman personally. During one of my annual trips to Mexico my family took me to visit a museum over the summer two years ago. I was stunned to see the talent that this female Mexican artist possessed. But having extraordinary talent will not guarantee success. This woman  is pushing the boundaries of her art and has started gain some recognition. It has been said that she could be the next idol in Women’s Art in Mexico. This is a huge deal in Mexico especially because having a women artist gain international fame is unheard of since Frida. Mexican women artist have not gained worldwide fame since the time of Frida, but many believe that the Mexican artist, Veronica Ruiz de Velasco, has put Mexican Women’s art back on the world stage, achieve international fame but will Ruiz de Velasco leave an everlasting impression on art like Frida?

Veronica Ruiz de Velasco one of Mexico best modern artist, seeks to achieve international fame and bring Mexican Art back to the world stage. Veronica Ruiz de Velasco a neo-figurative painter was born in Mexico D.F in 1968. Velasco was the 15th child of 18 brothers and sisters.
"Dancer" By Veronica Ruiz de Velasco
The female artist Veronica Ruiz de Velasco's who specializes in neo-figurative art created many outstanding  paintings. One of her more famous paintings is "Dancer" a piece that was bought by the great grandson of the world renowned painter, Clauden Monet. This meant so much to Ruiz de Velasco because this proved that her art was worthy and talented enough to be in the collection of Clauden Monet Grandson. In the painting "Dancer" we can see the different ways that Ruiz de Velasco has chosen to use bright colors on the dresses of each of the dancers. The bright colors represent sadness and in the painting we can see the dancers moving away from the dance floor and each look gloomy.

"Yo Soy" By Veronica Ruiz de Velasco

Another famous piece of art the was created by the Ruiz de Velasco is the art piece called "Yo soy". This piece created in 1985, is particularly interesting and very unusual. It represents Ruiz de Velascoand her emotions, once again the bright colors again exemplify sadness. If you take a look at the woman in the painting she is looking downwards, with her knees on the ground and looks like she has been crying.
