Semester Project.Black Women in Movement

Helene Johnson
MY SEMESTER PROJECT FOCUES ON 3 WOMEN DURING THE HARLEM RENAISSANCE, THESE WOMEN WROTE VERY DIFFERENT KINDS OF POETRY BUT ILLUSTRATED THE SAME KIND OF TRIUMPHS AND STRUGGLES WITHIN THEMSELVES AND DURING THERE TIME PERIOD. THE HARLEM RENAISSANCE WAS A TIME WHEN AFRICAN AMERICANS STARTED TO BECOME "  somebodies" DURING THE 1920'S.

THE NEW NEGRO MOVEMENT AS MANY CALLED IT, IT WAS A CHANCE FOR BLACKS TO EXERCISE AND PUT FORTH CHANGE WITHIN THE COMMUNITY OF THEIR. BLACKS DURING THIS TIME WERE EDUCATED, AND AWARE OF WHAT CHANGES NEEDED TO BE MADE WITHIN THE COMMUNITY AND WERE ON BOARD TO MAKING A DIFFERENCE. THE WOMEN THAT I HAVE CHOSEN ARE HELENE JOHNSON, GWENDOLYN BENNETT, AND AICE DUNBAR-NELSON, EACH OF THESE POETS CONTRIBUTED TO THIS PROGRESSION BY EXPOSING MANY TO THEIR WORKS THROUGH THERE POWERFUL WORDS. THEY WERE APART OF MOVEMENTS AND ORGANIZATIONS IN WHICH THEY WOULD GET THE EXPOSURE NEEDED TO EDUCATE THE BLACKS AROUND THEM.

Alice Dunbar-Nelson
MY PROJECT DISPLAYS 9 OF THE POEMS BY GWEDOYLN BENNETT, ALICE DUNBAR-NELSON AND HELEN JOHNSON. AS A CLASS WE WILL DISCUSS WHAT EFFECTS THESE POEMS HAVE ON US AND WHY DO WE THINK IT IS IMPORTANT ABOUT THE AUTHORS POETRY.

???

WAS THERE CONTRIBUTION WHAT THE BLACK COMMUNITY NEEDED?
DID IT REALLY INFLUENCE THE ONES IT NEEDED TO?

UGH WHAT!!! BORING!!
INSTEAD OF THIS LONG DRAWN OUT DESCRIPTION OF THESE WOMEN, I DECIDED TO MAKE A BLOG OF WOMEN OF INFLUENCE IN TODAYS SOCIETY FOR OUR YOUNG AFRICAN AMERICAN GIRLS IN THE INNER CITY. MY GOAL IS TO HAVE SOMETHING INSPIRATIONAL AND FUN TO LOOK AT INSTEAD OF LOOKING AT BET/MTV VIDEOS. EVENTUALLY I WANT TO PUSH MY IDEA TOWARDS MY NON PROFIT AND KEEP THE KNOWLEDGE ALIVE WITHIN OUR YOUNG GIRLS!
